Me, The Turtle

I’m
A turtle
	I’m
	A turtle
	I have
	Turtle
	Eyes
And a turtle
Long neck
But the
Best
Thing
About me
Is I always check
To see what’s there,
Always looking around -
Looking at all the things that
Live on the dirt and underground.
And anything you say to me I’ve heard
Before because my ears are always open
And my shell is so protective from insults
And spurns. I laugh at the lies. Can’t you see
That I am a master of disguise, all deceit and
Despise. When the world gets scary and I can’t
Deal with the shit, I just pop into my shell for a
Little bit. It’s spacious and simple, but it’s got all
That I need. I contract my neck inside my shield
And believe that one day I’ll be able to show my
Face. One day I’ll be happy enough to have some
Place where I don’t feel the need to shut out the
World – a place where I can show myself and not
Feel unnerved. I’ve got a little hovel I can just go
Inside of, whenever people say things that I’m
Not a part of. I want to be included, but that
Entails me opening up and risking death, but
Who knows if they would like me or if it’d
Be my last breath. For in between the hard
Carapace that I call home, I’m just a little
Turtle made of skin and bones. I move
So slow and everything's going so fast
That I fear they’ll forget me and I just
Won’t last. I can swim in the lake
And walk on the land, but every
Living thing seems to do more
Than I can. So, I think for now
I’ll just stay in my shell and
Avoid obligations I know
I could never do as well.
Just give me some
Love for it’s all
That I want.
My shell
Is kinda
Cold
And
Sorta
Empty.
I’m just
A little
Turtle
Who
Just
Needs
A
Friend.
